New Faculty in 2017-18

Casady School takes pride in its robust and talented faculty and staff and has had the opportunity to fill positions in 2017-18 with unique and experienced individuals who will continue Casady's mission to develop excellence, confidence, and integrity in our students.
Chris Adamson, Fifth Grade Social Studies: Chris Adamson joins the fifth grade team as a History teacher. Originally, from Oklahoma and a graduate of Deer Creek High School, Mr. Adamson went to Dartmouth College where his course work included Modern Germany, Modern Japan, Native American History, Africa and the United States. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History and has taught history New Hampton School in New Hampshire, and Salisbury School in Connecticut. Mr. Adamson is returning to the classroom after being the Director of Football Operations, Head Varsity Football Coach, and Admissions Associate at the Viewpoint School in Calabasas, California. For the Cyclone football team, Mr. Adamson will be the Defensive Coordinator and will coach eighth grade basketball.
Jake Bryan, Eighth Grade Latin: Jake Bryan comes to Casady School as a Latin Teacher in eighth grade. Mr. Bryan graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Letters with a minor in Latin. During his time at OU, he was the recipient of the John H. Hansen Prize for Future Teachers of Latin and was a volunteer Latin tutor. Mr. Bryan has been a College Counselor since 2015 at H.E.R.O.E.S. Camp in Richardson, Texas.
John Day, Security Team Lead: John Day is a graduate of the Air Force Police Academy and was a part of the military police for more than 10 years. Upon returning to civilian life, Mr. Day has worked corporate security at Hobby Lobby and several property management companies in Oklahoma City. Mr. Day has been on our weekend team for the past year, and we are excited that he has agreed to come on full time when School is in session. Acting as our Security Team Leader, Mr. Day will ensure that all security shifts that monitor School activities after the academic day, as well as our weekend security members, are apprised of important information.
Ashlynn Dickinson, Primary and Lower Division Music: Ashlynn Dickinson was introduced to Casady through Tammie Rice, who retired from Casady’s Primary and Lower Division music program, and Jamee Hale, Casady’s band director. Both Mrs. Rice and Mrs. Hale know Ms. Dickinson through various professional associations. Before joining Casady, she was with the Norman School District where she was awarded the Teacher of the Year for her elementary school and was one of three finalists for Teacher of the Year for the entire Norman School District. Ms. Dickinson graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music Education from Oklahoma Baptist University and has recently completed her Master’s of Music Education from the University of Oklahoma. Ms. Dickinson will lead the Primary and Lower Division Music programs.
Shelly Fryer, Third Grade: Shelly Fryer joins Casady’s Lower Division as a third grade faculty member. Mrs. Fryer has 30 years of experience teaching at the elementary level. She has most recently been a teacher at Positive Tomorrows, Oklahoma's only school exclusively serving homeless students and their families. Mrs. Fryer is passionate about helping students to love learning and will prepare Casady students with the skills and knowledge to succeed. Mrs. Fryer is an Oklahoma A+ Fellow, Seesaw Ambassador, and 2016 PBS Digital Innovator. She is a graduate of Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts. Mrs. Fryer will join her husband, Dr. Wes Fryer, Director of Technology, in the Casady Community.
Lindsay Graham '00, Associate Director of Admission: Lindsay Hightower Graham ’00 has joined the Institutional Advancement Office as Associate Director of Admission. Prior to joining Casady, Mrs. Graham was the Director of Communications and Events at Oklahoma City University School of Law. Mrs. Graham was a lifer at Casady and will bring her expertise to the Casady Admission experience. After graduating from Casady, Mrs. Graham went to Southern Methodist University where she graduated with a B.A. in Art History.
Jonas Hamilton, Upper Division History: Jonas Hamilton has joined Casady’s Upper Division History Department. He has taught at the Calhoun School in New York City for the past 11 years. Mr. Hamilton will be a strong asset to the History Department having taught courses such as La Frontera, which explored recent History, literature, and art of the the U.S.-Mexico border. He is fluent in Spanish and is a master Chess player. Mr. Hamilton graduated cum laude from Harvard College with a B.A. in Medieval European History with a minor in Modern European History. He also received his Master of Arts and a Master of Philosophy from Columbia University.
Carol Hirtzel, Upper Division Science: Carol Hirtzel has joined the Upper Division Science Department. Ms. Hirtzel is a Master Teacher with the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board and oversees a variety of programs for the board. Ms. Hirtzel has teaching experience in physics, chemistry, and biology. With more than 30 years of teaching, Ms. Hirtzel will be a valuable resource to the Casady Community. Ms. Hirtzel has received a number of teaching awards, her most recent being the Fund for Teachers Grant Award for $10,000 to participate in a research-based field-oriented program in Hawaii that explores the principles of geosciences. She received her M.S. from the University of Oklahoma and her B.S. from Cameron University.
Durvis "Tinker" Hulen, Fourth Grade Social Studies and Science: Durvis Hulen is the new fourth grade social studies and science teacher. For the past 12 years, Mr. Hulen has taught seventh grade science at Independence Charter Middle School. Prior to teaching, Mr. Hulen was a Medical Research Assistant at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in the Molecular and Cell Biology Department. Mr. Hulen graduated from Cameron University with Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a minor in Mathematics and Biology. He also received a Master's of Science in Physical Chemistry from Oklahoma State University.
BrieAnn Johnson, Upper Division English: BrieAnn Johnson has joined the Upper Division English Department. Ms. Johnson is originally from Oklahoma but has spent the past two years teaching in California. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Oklahoma City University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and English. Ms. Johnson has been teaching since graduating from OCU in 2007 and participates in a variety of professional development experiences.
Amanda Kisselle, Director of College Counseling: Amanda Kisselle comes to Casady from Austin College, a student-centered liberal arts college in Sherman, Texas. Ms. Kisselle earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry in 2004 from Austin College. Ms. Kisselle also spent 12 years in the Admissions Office at Austin College, including three years as Executive Director of Admissions and two years, concurrently, as Director of International Student Recruitment. During her time at the school, she gained extensive knowledge of college admissions, and she has long admired Casady’s College Counseling Office because of the values it promotes in the college search process and the emphasis that Casady places on finding the “best fit” college for each student. Ms. Kisselle will partner with Dr. Janet Hubbell, also Director of College Counseling, and Mary Ann Cockrum, Registrar, as they continue the work of our exceptional College Counseling Team.
Drew McCarty, Varsity Girls' Volleyball: Drew McCarty is the Cyclones' new Head Varsity Girls' Volleyball coach. Coach McCarty has coached at the Oklahoma Peak Performance Volleyball Club, Deer Creek Public Schools, Cheyenne Middle School, and Kaizen Volleyball Club. He is also a Physical Therapy Technician at Community Hospital Outpatient Therapy. Coach McCarty graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a B.S. in Kinesiology.
Matt McLeod, Varsity Basketball: Matt McLeod joins the Cyclone Athletic Department as the Head Coach of Varsity Boys' Basketball. Coach McLeod has been coaching since 2007 and has a career record of 241-126. He is a three-time recipient of the Don Coleman Outstanding Coach of the Year Award from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. He has been the coach of four district championship teams and had three regional finals appearances, one of which was a final four berth. Coach McLeod has a Bachelor of Science in Communications (Broadcast Journalism) and a Bachelor of Arts in English (Technical Writing) from Oral Roberts University. He is also pursuing a Master's of Sports Administration at Liberty University.
Ami Naik, Advancement Assistant: Ami Naik joins the Advancement Team after spending 10 years at Devon Energy Corp. as an Analyst II - Commodity Market Analysis. Mrs. Naik will assist the Admission and Development teams. She has an in depth database, reporting, and data entry background and will manage the Admission and Enrollment Management database for Casady. Ms. Naik graduated from California State Polytechnic University with Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Sandra Hermansen Nelson, Sixth Grade English: Sandra Nelson joins her siblings, Kevin Hermansen and Jen Matias, as a faculty member at Casady School to teach sixth grade English. Prior to joining the Casady Community, Mrs. Nelson taught at Oklahoma Christian School for eight years. She has a B.A. in English Literature from Gordon College, a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from Southern Nazarene University, and M.A. in Theological Studies from St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in New York. Mrs. Nelson has extensive experience teaching grammar, writing strategies, and literary appreciation and analysis.
Rick Provost, Maintenence Supervisor: Rick Provost has joined Casady's Operations Team as the Maintenance Supervisor. Mr. Provost will oversee all maintenance issues and upkeep at the School while Mark Coate, who is a veteran with Casady’s Physical Plant Team, will oversee all of the grounds. Prior to joining the Casady Community, Mr. Provost was the Project Manager and Maintenance Supervisor at Welcome Home Management Services where he managed the maintenance department of a large metro area property management company of 395 single family homes with a staff of eight employees.
Kristen Salter, Primary Division: Kristen Salter recently completed her Master’s of Education in Early Childhood Education with a Montessori Certification from Oklahoma City University and will be a faculty member in Primary Division. At OCU, Ms. Salter held a 4.0 GPA, graduated with High Honors, and was a Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society Member. Prior to receiving her Master’s, Ms. Salter worked as an independent land contractor and has held positions in the marketing field.
Aimee Stafford, Operations Assistant: Aimee Stafford came to Casady in November 2016 for a special contract position for the ISAS Arts Festival. After the Festival, Ms. Stafford was hired as the Operations Assistant. She graduated from Wellesley College with a B.A. in Psychology and has extensive experience in database management and office coordination. She will be integral to the efficiency of the School's maintenance, grounds, and technology departments.
Jaime Steinke, Lower Division Administrative Assistant: Jaime Steinke joined Casady’s Lower Division earlier this summer as the Administrative Assistant. Mrs. Steinke has more than 10 years of experience as an administrative assistant and will be an ideal asset to the Lower Division. Prior to joining Casady School, Mrs. Steinke was the Front Desk Manager at Nephrology Consultants. She received an Associate's Degree From Ashford University.
HannahLu "HL" Watson, Administrative Assistant to Head of School: HannahLu (HL) Watson has assumed the role of Assistant to the Head of School. Prior to coming to Casady, Ms. Watson was the Director of Operations and Chief Financial Officer at Harding Fine Arts Academy. She has experience interacting with board members, faculty, and parents and will serve as an intermediary between the Casady Community and the Head of School’s office. Ms. Watson has a B.L.S. in Administration Leadership and M.Ed. in Training and Development. She is very active at St. John’s Episcopal Church, is on the Friends/Advisory Board of St. Crispin’s Conference Center, and is a volunteer for the Oklahoma City Civic Center STARS.

Familiar Faces | New Places

Versatility and talent are key in Casady School's faculty base. Several members of our community are assuming new roles beginning this year. In the Middle Division, Kevin Hermansen is moving from seventh grade history to eighth grade history, and Jake Staats has moved from fifth grade geography to fill the seventh grade history position. Peter Hoffman has moved from teaching Middle Division Latin to teaching Latin in the Upper Division. Curt Foster, who was previously in the Admission Office, has assumed a lead role to develop the digital cinema curriculum in the Upper Division. Dr. Bonnie Gerard will continue her role as a member of the Upper Division English faculty and will also be the faculty sponsor for the Twister yearbook. Josh Bottomly has assumed his position as Associate Head of School for Academics, and  Linda Waters has assumed a new role as Director of Admission. Mark Coate, who is a veteran with the School’s grounds and maintenance department, has been named Grounds Supervisor.
