Casady School takes pride in its robust and talented faculty and staff and has the opportunity to fill positions with unique and experienced individuals who will continue Casady's mission to develop excellence, confidence, and integrity in our students.
Brook Arbeitman, Communications Director: Brook Arbeitman has an extensive background in communications, marketing, and media relations. Prior to joining the Casady Community she was Senior Business Development and Marketing Director at Miles Associates, an Oklahoma City-based architecture firm. Prior to Miles and Associates, Mrs. Arbeitman spent five years as the Marketing and Communications Director at Oklahoma City University School of Law. She also has worked for the state of Oklahoma after a career in television news that took her to Wichita Falls, Texas, Springfield, Missouri, and Augusta, Georgia. A Norman native, Mrs. Arbeitman is a graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting.
Reverend Kirsten Baer, Assistant Chaplain and Religious Education: Rev. Kirsten Baer has joined Casady as the assistant chaplain and Middle Division religious education teacher. Rev. Baer comes from Grace Church where she and her husband restarted the Episcopal Church presence in Yukon. Working as Co-Vicar since 2013, Rev. Baer grew the community from a dozen people to a 300-member congregation. Rev. Baer completed her Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and her Masters of Education at the University of Oklahoma before she attended Virginia Theological Seminary where she earned a Master of Divinity.
Dr. Jeri Baucum McKinney, Director of Psychological Services: Jeri Baucum McKinney joins Casady as Director of Psychological Services. In her role at Casady, Dr. McKinney is excited to build on the design and implementation of a wellness curriculum around character education, resilience, adaptability, coping skills, balance, and general healthy behaviors we want our children to develop as part of our mission. Prior to joining Casady's faculty, Dr. McKinney was a school-based mental health psychologist for Durham Public Schools in North Carolina. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, in Geneva, NY; her Master of Science in Child Development from the Erikson Institute in Chicago; and a Master of Education in School Psychology and Doctorate of Philosophy in School Psychology, from Temple University in Philadelphia. Dr. McKinney holds a National Certification in School Psychology and has given national presentations about various topics related to meeting social-emotional needs, providing assessment and school interventions for school-age children, and classroom management techniques for classroom teachers. She has a passion for developing curriculum to teach ALL our children healthy behavioral and positive social-emotional skills.
Julie Baker Braun '84, Second Grade: Julie Baker Braun comes to Casady from Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she taught for eight years. Mrs. Braun is a Casady alumna from the class of 1984. After graduation from Casady, she attended Randolph-Macon Woman's College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and French. She later completed her Master's of Education in Early Childhood Education at Georgia State University.
Matthew R. Cloud CFRE, Director of Development: Matt Cloud joined the Office of Institutional Advancement in October 2017 and brings more than nine years of knowledge and experience to Casady School, including most recently as the Development Director of the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, where he and his team were responsible for generating significant philanthropic support. In addition to his career experience, Mr. Cloud is a Certified Fund Raising Executive C.F.R.E., holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs and Administration from the University of Oklahoma as well as his Master’s degree in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma.
Brannan Crossno '12, Digital Community Manager: Brannan Crossno joined Casady in October 2017 as Digital Community Manager. Before coming to Casady, Mr. Crossno worked as a Coordinator of Chapter Development for Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, Inc. where he traveled the country working with college-age students. Mr. Crossno is a Casady lifer and member the Class of 2012. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Journalism.
Jennifer Farha Homsey '00, Director of Alumni Relations: Jennifer Homsey joined the Institutional Advancement Office as Director of Alumni Relations on the Development Team in March. Mrs. Homsey is responsible for programs and initiatives designed to develop networking opportunities and build and strengthen relationships Casady Alumni have with our School and members of our community. She brings experience in direct marketing activities ranging from event planning and donor relations to solicitation. Prior to joining Casady, Mrs. Homsey was the Director of Account Management for Buxton, a market research and customer analytics firm that helps companies across a variety of industries understand who their customers are, where their customers are located, and the value those customers bring to the company. Mrs. Homsey is a Casady Class of 2000 graduate. After graduation, she attended Oklahoma Sate University and completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Science.
Katie Blaik James '90, Director of Annual Giving: Katie Blaik James joined the Institutional Advancement Office in February as Director of Annual Giving on the Development Office Team. Mrs. James directs our Annual Fund program, which is the most important stream of unrestricted support the School receives annually. She has experience in directing fundraising activities ranging from event planning and donor relations to gift solicitation. Additionally, Mrs. James has been a non-profit professional and attorney with experience in many areas of law and human resources. Prior to joining Casady's staff, Mrs. James had her own law practice and real estate business, and had previously served as the Director of Development at Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics Foundation. After graduating from Casady, Mrs. James went to Sweet Briar College and earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Mrs. James then attended the University of Oklahoma College of Law graduating with a Juris Doctorate.
Paul Marley, Upper Division Mathematics: Paul Marley comes to Casady from Crossings Christian School in Oklahoma City to join the Upper Division Mathematics faculty. Mr. Marley attended Duke University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering). Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy for six years. After his military service, Mr. Marley returned to school and graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Master's of Business Administration.
Drew McCarty, Fifth Grade Science: Drew McCarty joined the Cyclones last year as the Head Varsity Girls' Volleyball Coach. Mr. McCarty will take on the role of teaching fifth grade science this year as well as continue to serve as the Girls' Volleyball Coach. Mr. McCarty has worked as a Physical Therapy Technician at Community Hospital Outpatient Therapy and has coached and been active in Oklahoma volleyball programs at Deer Creek, Cheyenne Middle School, and Kaizen Volleyball Club. Mr. McCarty graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor's of Science in Kinesiology and is currently pursuing a Master's of Secondary Education.
Emily McConnell, Primary Division: Emily McConnell will be joining Casady a member of the Primary Division faculty. Ms. McConnell worked at St. Eugene Catholic School before coming to Casady. She graduated from Oklahoma City University with a Master of Education degree. Ms. McConnell has a history of volunteerism relating to environmental stewardship.
Meredith Mustain-Mayernik, Fourth Grade: Meredith Mustain-Mayernik is coming to Casady to join the Lower Division faculty as a fourth grade teacher. Mrs. Mayernik has taught in Oklahoma schools for more than 25 years, and most recently she taught at Deer Creek Public Schools, where she was the fifth and sixth grade information technology teacher. Mrs. Mayernik graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education, and a Master's degree in Education Leadership in Administration.
Lauren Peña, Seventh Grade English: Lauren Peña is coming to Casady to serve as the seventh grade English teacher. Before joining our Casady faculty, Mrs. Peña was an English Language Arts teacher at Mustang High School. She graduated from Southwest Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science in Communication and is currently working on her Master's in Educational Administration at the University of Central Oklahoma. Mrs. Peña will be joining her husband, Matt Peña, who teaches Spanish in the Upper Division.
Valerie Russell, Upper Division Mathematics: Valerie Russell is returning to Casady to fill a role teaching Math in the Upper Division. Previously, Ms. Russell taught Algebra I in the Middle Division from 2004 to 2007. Prior to her return, Ms. Russell taught mathematics at Crossings Christian School. She earned her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Oklahoma City University.
Danielle Sappington, Sixth Grade English: Danielle Sappington is coming to Casady to join the Sixth Grade Team to teach English in Middle Division. Before joining our community as a faculty member, Mrs. Sappington taught high school English in Bethany Public Schools. She graduated from Mercer University with a degree in Education focused on Specific Learning Disability. Mrs. Sappington joins her husband, Aric Sappington, who has been a member of the Middle Division Faculty for many years and will this year lead the new Middle Division Makerspace.
Karla Shirazi, Middle Division French: Karla Shirazi has joined the Middle Division faculty as a French teacher. Ms. Shirazi earned a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising and Foreign Languages-French/Spanish from Southern Methodist University and a Master's of French Language from Middlebury College. While in school, she volunteered at Off The Street Club, an organization that serves children in West Garfield Park, Chicago, where she tutored and mentored students.
Tai Shriner, Learning Specialist for Primary and Lower Divisions: Tai Shriner joined Casady's team of Learning Specialists in March and is focused on Primary and Lower Divisions. She joins us with more than 12 years of teaching and learning specialist experience. Mrs. Shriner has done most of her teaching and learning support work in and around the Kansas City area, and she taught first, third, and fourth grades prior to becoming a learning specialist. She understands the needs of both the teacher and the students and believes in working alongside teachers to develop tools for them to find greater success reaching all students. Prior to joining Casady, Mrs. Shriner was with the Platte County, Missouri School District where she worked as a special education process coordinator and diagnostician. She received her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Montie Koehn-Sill, Director of Lower Division: Montie Koehn-Sill has devoted her life to educating young children. She has more than eight years of experience in the classroom, teaching first, second, third, and fourth grades. For the past 15 years, Mrs. Sill has served as the Principal of two elementary schools in the Oklahoma City area. Under her leadership, the culture and atmosphere of both schools were transformed and became positive learning environments. Both schools became “Great Expectation Model Schools.” In 2011, Mrs. Sill was named Oklahoma’s National Distinguished Principal of the Year and represented our state and all Oklahoma educators in Washington, D.C. She currently serves as Secretary on the Board of Great Expectations and is also involved in the A+ Schools programs, along with many of our own Casady teachers. Mrs. Sill earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Master of Education Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma.


Gloria Yost, Fourth Grade Science: Gloria Yost joins Casady as the fourth grade science teacher. Ms. Yost has spent 14 years as an educator, most recently as a reading interventionist to help students improve in reading and comprehension. She works with Great Expectations Foundation during the summer to model practices and methods to other teachers to energize and positively impact their classrooms. Ms. Yost graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.
Karla Zuñiga, Assistant Teacher in Primary Division: Karla Zuñiga has joined our Casady faculty to serve as an Assistant Teacher in the Primary Division. Before coming to Casady, Ms. Zuñiga worked at the Chesapeake Child Development Center and The Bilingual Schoolhouse. She earned a B.A. in Psychology from St. Mary's University.

Familiar Faces | New Places

Versatility and talent are key in Casady School's faculty base. Several members of our community are assuming new roles this year. 

Josh Bottomly has taken on the role of Interim Director of the Middle Division for the 2018-19 school year in addition to his responsibilities as Associate Head of School for Academics. 
Betty Jane Garrett '86 has moved from her role as Director of Communications to serve as Interim Director of Institutional Advancement overseeing the Admission, Communications, and Development teams.
Clint McEwen has fully stepped into his new role as Assistant Director of Casady's Primary Division.
Justin Miles has moved from fifth grade science to sixth grade science.
Sandy Nelson has left Middle Division English to teach English in the Upper Division, while working closely with Josh Bottomly on Casady's Strategic Academic Plan and curriculum development across the divisions.
Cherylynn O'Melia has left her Middle Division teaching position to assume a new role in the Upper Division as Director of Service Learning and Student Activities.
Blake Pardue has moved from teaching Middle Division French to teach French in Upper Division.
Aric Sappington has moved from his position in seventh grade science to helm the Middle Division Makerspace.
Shannon Semet is moving from sixth grade science to seventh grade science.
Whitney Stone '95 has moved from teaching English in the Upper Division to become a member of the Sixth Grade Team teaching history.
Fr. Tim Sean Youmans has moved into his new role as Vicar of the Chapel of St. Edward the Confessor.
Sara Zedlitz has moved from sixth grade history to take on the role of Assistant Director of Middle Division.
