Visual art lessons are designed to be inquiry based, open-ended, sequential experiences. Many of the lessons are integrated with classroom units in math, science, social studies and language arts. The children gain technical skills in a variety of media throughout their LD career. They explore historical periods by experiencing cave painting, tell visual stories of medieval dragons, build proportional figures of Classical art, and practice perspective techniques used by the Renaissance artists. By learning how to use the language of art, students are encouraged to progressively develop visual literacy through creative expression.
Student work is valued and exhibited throughout the School and within the community. Work is submitted to the Respect Diversity Art & Poetry Exhibit, Fine Arts Exhibit and displayed at the Casady School Spring Art Show during the annual Evening of the Arts.
