Cyclone Basketball Wins SPC Championship

Casady’s boys’ basketball team was crowned the champion in the Southwest Preparatory Conference Championship Tournament in Houston.
The team was undefeated in SPC Conference play and entered the tournament as the top seed in the North Zone. This is the first year a North Zone team and a small school in the SPC has won the championship since it was changed to one tournament three years ago. Previously, the SPC tournament had two divisions.

The Cyclones won their first game in the quarterfinal round of the tournament 47-39 against Episcopal School of Dallas. In the semi-final round, the Cyclones came out on top 55-54 against The Kinkaid School of Houston. In the final game, Casady beat Houston Episcopal 63-46.

“We played several 6A teams during the season to build our resilience and adversity so we would be prepared to take on the larger school teams in the SPC,” said Varsity Head Coach Demarcco Owens. “When we play schools like Midwest City, Edmond, Santa Fe and the other Edmond schools, it helps us to prepare for these larger Houston teams we would encounter in SPC play so the team was used to this type of competition.”
