Parent University: Digital Citizenship Events

As part of the School's "Digital Citizenship" initiative, we are hosting several "Parent University" presentations and conversations this spring.
Have you ever wondered if you are covering all the bases to keep your children safe on social media and the Internet? The first event in this series will be for parents and grandparents only. Separate events will be offered for Primary and Lower Division parents and for Middle and Upper Division parents. Parents with children in more than one division are welcome to attend both, and sessions will be repeated in the morning as well as evening. Evening events for parents and students will be offered after Spring Break in April.

Topics to be addressed in our February events for parents-only include:

  • Strategies for monitoring and limiting Internet screen time and social media access.
  • Strategies and apps for filtering YouTube so kids see videos which are age and developmentally appropriate.
  • Strategies for parents to promote health and wellness when it comes to screens at home and smart phones.
  • Consider and discuss limitations and rules Casady families are using for digital devices at home to encourage healthy sleep habits.
  • Consider and discuss appropriate limits on children's privacy when it comes to social media and digital devices.
  • Consider and discuss some practical ways parents and children can talk about issues including online bullying, viewing or sharing inappropriate media online, and other topics which come up with social media and internet use.
One of our main goals is to encourage more conversations among our students, teachers, and parents about digital citizenship issues, which include a wide range of topics ranging from safety to health and wellness. We are building a website of resources we invite you to check out and utilize, to promote ongoing conversations among members of our community at all ages about digital citizenship. This website will be unveiled at the Parent University sessions next week.
