Fr. Youmans attended Oklahoma Baptist University, majoring in English and History. Fr. Youmans, also known to the students and his colleagues, as "Fr. You" or "Papa You," was a Baptist youth minister in Shawnee and Dallas for 20 years before becoming an Episcopal priest. He attended Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, and completed his Anglican Studies for the priesthood at Nashotah House in Wisconsin.
Upon being ordained, the Bishop's plan for Fr. Youmans was for him to practice collegiate ministry at OSU, but when the Assistant Vicar opportunity at Casady presented itself Fr. Youmans instantly loved the idea of serving as a chaplain and religion teacher.
Fr. Youmans' classroom is all about discussion and the exchange of ideas. His students read passages from scripture and other texts together, then break down the meaning and the lessons found in the readings. He also works passionately with the House program in Middle Division and conducts the annual Bible Bee competition with our students. His classroom is referred to as Bibleland.
"I love their honest reactions to our study of the spiritual life," Fr. Youmans said. "As well as the mixture of religious background and thought they bring to our classes. They have kept me on my toes and sharpened my understanding of the 'so what' of spirituality."
As Fr. Youmans works with the children, he said the mixture of backgrounds and religious diversity of the our students, and by extension their families, is a challenge that forces us to do it in a "thoughtful and sensitive way because we really do value every single family that comes to Casady School."
Fr. Youmans' son, Noah, is a sophomore at Casady and is very active in Casady Theatre and volleyball. The entire Youmans family is thankful that Noah is at Casady, where he can pursue all of his passions.
