Father Youmans to Assume Vicar's Role at Casady

As we bid farewell and honor Fr. Charles Blizzard, we look forward to what the future brings with our Chapel program under the guidance of our new Vicar, and we ask that you join us in welcoming “Papa You”, as he is known by his students.
Fr. Charles Blizzard who has been with Casady School for 12 years will be leaving our community at the end of this school year to become a full time chaplain with the military as a captain in the U.S. Air Force.

When Fr. Blizzard first arrived on campus in 2006 he officiated his first wedding, and since that time he has officiated at least 62 weddings, 36 baptisms, and more than 5,500 Chapel services from Primary through Upper Division. He has coached football, track, and, for more than a decade, has served up hotdogs as a chaperone on the fourth-grade campout. In 2010 I worked closely with Father Blizzard as we completed the Founders' dreams, to add the transepts to our beautiful Chapel of St. Edward the Confessor, and he has shepherded our community with compassion and empathy during times of difficulty. We have cherished the fact that he has the opportunity to interact daily with each of your children building, fostering, and nurturing relationships. It is what he will miss the most as he transitions into his new role.

While our institution is built on the shoulders of giants, and Father Blizzard will be added to that list of people from which we will build, it is my pleasure to share with you that Fr. Tim Sean Youmans will assume the Vicar’s Chair at Casady. Fr. Youmans joined our community in 2012 and has become a well-liked and respected teacher and vicar amongst our students. He currently leads the Middle Division Religious Studies curriculum and serves as the Assistant Vicar. I have worked closely with our Bishop and appreciate his support in our consideration and support to promote Tim Sean into this new role.

As you might have read in his Focus on Faculty in late March, Fr. Youmans attended Oklahoma Baptist University, majoring in English and History and was a Baptist youth minister in Shawnee and Dallas for 20 years before becoming an Episcopal priest. He attended Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth and completed his Anglican Studies for the priesthood at Nashotah House in Wisconsin.

Upon being ordained, the Bishop's plan for Fr. Youmans was for him to practice collegiate ministry at OSU, but when the Assistant Vicar opportunity at Casady presented itself Fr. Youmans instantly loved the idea of serving as a chaplain and religion teacher.

Fr. Youmans shared, “In Christ ‘we live, we move, and have our very being.’ I'm looking forward to celebrating the idea that God can be present in everything we do at Casady; from athletics, science, literature, music, math, history, theater, to painting and sculpture. You name it. If God is the source, then anything can be spiritual.”

As we bid farewell and honor Fr. Blizzard, I look forward to what the future brings with our Chapel program under the guidance of our new Vicar, and I ask that you please join me in welcoming “Papa You”, as he is known by his students!

Faithfully,

Nathan L. Sheldon
