Casady's Associate Head of School for Academics, Josh Bottomly, joined our community in 2004 as a member of the English Department. His study and passion for J.R.R. Tolkien's books "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" made him a popular faculty member and sparked discussions of deeper literary ideas and observations about human nature in his classroom. Mr. Bottomly enjoys teaching about the hero's journey and how each journey can be as unique as any character, while the basic structure of the story remains the same.

Mr. Bottomly has a passion for education, and he has a clear understanding of the colleges and universities where our students will continue to succeed.

While Mr. Bottomly served as Upper Division's Director of College Counseling, he revamped the way our students approached the college admissions process, encouraging them to not just fill out forms and answer questions, but to use every opportunity to tell college admissions officers the story of who they are.

"We've found that the skills that we teach translate to any academic major; whether those skills are in critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and imagination," Mr. Bottomly said. " It's those skill sets that are building a foundation for students to have success in college and beyond. One of the things our students understand is that they are empowered at Casady to take ownership of their education."

In 2018-19, Mr. Bottomly will serve a dual role and take on the responsibilities of Interim Director of Middle Division.
