Casady Debate Members Go All In During Summer Vacation

Casady debate team member, Matthew McQuistion '21, joined 90 students from around the world in Beijing, China to participate in the Yale Young Global Scholars program.
The program is focused on Asia in the 21st century and helps young leaders gain a deeper understanding of the fastest growing region in the world today. Participants analyze the conditions that have promoted or impeded growth and development in Asia and explore the unique social, political, and economic challenges that countries face as they continue to develop. Participants look closely at Asia’s increasing engagement with the rest of the world and its impact on the global political landscape.
Matthew's experience in speech and debate experience in international extemporaneous speaking provided background in the topics discussed, and the program let him develop a deeper understanding of the issues affecting Asia in the 21st century and a broader perspective by speaking with students his age from China and all over the world.

Additionally, this summer Armaan Aggarwal '20 and Malavika Rajaram '20 attended a six-week camp at the Northwestern Debate Institute at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and earned first place at the camp-wide tournament.

Another set of debaters, Alex Barreto '21 and Carlos Henry '21, were invited to The University of Michigan’s Junior Round Robin Invitational. This invitation is extended only to the top nine juniors in the country.
