Lyricist & Librettist
New York City, NY

Raised in Oklahoma City, Eric Price is an award-winning lyricist, playwright, director, producer, and educator working in professional theatre in New York City.
He recently received the prestigious Kleban Prize for Lyrics, awarded annually to the most promising musical theatre lyricist in America. Eric is also the recipient of the Fred Ebb Award for Musical Theatre Writing, the Lotte Lenya Songbook Award, a Dramatists Guild Fellowship, and numerous honors from ASCAP. A portion of his work is permanently housed in a Special Collection in the Music Division of the Library of Congress.

Eric’s musicals include The Violet Hour, Radioactive, Presto Change-o, Hello Out There, Around the World, The Sixth Borough, and Emma. He was also a songwriter for the Apple TV+ animated series Central Park. In addition, he was part of the writing team for the stage adaptation of Clue, based on the film and the iconic board game. The show has become one of the most-produced plays in America and has toured extensively throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

Eric’s musical The Violet Hour has gained an international following through its acclaimed Studio Cast Album, which features Tony Award-winners Santino Fontana and Brandon Uranowitz, along with Broadway stars Jeremy Jordan, Erika Henningsen, and Solea Pfeiffer. The album has received millions of streams, inspired the companion documentary film Moment to Moment, and was named Best Cast Recording of the Year by the Broadway Radio Show. A major New York benefit presentation of the musical is scheduled for November 2026 as development continues toward a Broadway production.

For many years, Eric served as assistant to legendary 21-time Tony Award-winning director and producer Harold Prince. During that time, he worked on the development of new musicals in New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., London, and Tokyo, and was also closely involved in more than four years of development on the Tony Award-winning musical The Band's Visit. He regularly consults on books, events, and archival projects related to the careers of Harold Prince and Stephen Sondheim, with whom he also worked closely.

Eric earned degrees in Acting and Directing from Indiana University, where he received the Theatre Circle Award, the program’s top honor. He later earned an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he studied under Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist William Finn. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild, the Recording Academy, and the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab.

In addition to his writing career, Eric is a professor of musical theatre at Pace University and Molloy University/CAP21. He teaches musical theatre history, repertoire, performance technique, and songwriting. His former students include Tony Award-winners and nominees, performers in dozens of
Broadway productions and national tours, and award-winning composers and lyricists.

For more than twenty years, Eric has collaborated with composer Will Reynolds on new musicals and recordings. Together, they run Flowerpot Tree Productions, the publishing and production company for their work. Their current projects include a new musical, The Role of a Lifetime, and a symphonic album, Getting Closer: The Songs of Reynolds & Price, featuring Broadway performers and the 62-piece Budapest Scoring Orchestra.

Eric is represented by William Morris Endeavor. He lives in Manhattan with his wife, Libby, and their daughter Josephine.
