Focus on Faculty: Blayze Hembree
In his role as eighth grade English teacher, Mr. Hembree leads students through exercises and studies to refine their skills in reading and writing across a wide variety of literary styles, emphasizing flexibility in academic thought and communication.

"I have to say that teaching at Casady, especially the Middle Division, is equal parts fun and interesting," Mr. Hembree said. "I think it's fun because there are often times in class when we're laughing and it seems like there's no rhyme or reason to it. There are also moments when I am blown away by the level of interesting conversations or debates about the literature.
"It's gratifying and satisfying to enjoy myself in the classroom and come to a greater understanding of things with my students."
Mr. Hembree came to Casady in 2014 from the University of Kansas, after he received an M.A. in Literature. During his studies, as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, he taught entry-level English courses. In addition to general courses in rhetoric and composition, Mr. Hembree created and developed an elective course on the Graphic Novel for the purpose of building students’ visual literacy skills in the academic setting. Before beginning his Master's work and teaching at KU, Mr. Hembree taught Oral English at Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology in Qinhuangdao, China.
Prior to his graduate studies, Mr. Hembree earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University and a B.A. in English from the University of Oklahoma, where he became a McNair Scholar and served as an intern and writer for World Literature Today.
