Commitment | Field Hockey

Casady Athletics has gained tremendous momentum with the announcement a year ago by the Board of Trustees to move to the OSSAA. This realignment, coupled with the reaffirmation of the School’s commitment to the Field Hockey and Boys’ Volleyball programs with a new Associate Membership in the SPC, have set the pace for future generations of Cyclone student-athletes. We’ve also seen foundational alignment created in the athletics administrative structure with an Athletic Director who is supported by an Upper and a Middle Division Assistant Athletic Director.

This reaffirmation to our Cyclone Field Hockey program and to our 26 SPC Field Hockey Championships – the team won SPC this fall – in our 70-year history was all that we needed to further support Casady School in this new level of Field Hockey. With it, we all recognize the evolution of the sport on a larger scale, both within our competitor schools in the SPC and on a collegiate level. We’re especially encouraged by this increased level of competition and the Cyclone momentum we see. Since the 1990s, we’ve had 30 student-athletes move on to play in college. 

Our commitment to maintaining a competitive Field Hockey program now and in the future means that we need to have a world class environment for our girls to train and play. We are extremely excited about a lead matching gift from the Payne Family to construct a new water-based turf field within Casady’s developing Athletics Core. Currently, only five teams out of 16 in the SPC practice and play on turf, and we will be the only school in Oklahoma to have such a facility. However, 100% of the girls who continue playing field hockey in college will do so on turf. Our commitment to developing skills is in our DNA and our mission statement, and this commitment to our program will facilitate a smooth transition for our college-bound field hockey players. As one of our major girls’ programs, it is important that we continue to provide our players with opportunities to be competitive.

As coaches, we are in unanimous support of this particular evolution of Casady’s Field Hockey program to build a water-based turf field for both practice and competitive play, while we recognize the historical value of the field that was originally planted by Joanne Woolsey. We rejoice in this strong foundation and celebrate the future of this program. 

Stemming from this lead gift, we have now reached nearly 60% of the funding for the turf field. We invite you to help us get over the end line by making a gift today at the level you are comfortable in order to ensure the next generation of Cyclone Field Hockey players are preparing for accelerated SPC competition while supporting those who aspire to play in college.
