Cyclones Team with Oklahoma Athletic Trainers' Association
As a part of a state wide effort, Casady School, alongside the Oklahoma Athletic Trainers’ Association, is promoting a “Safety in Football Campaign” in order to demonstrate why “Safety in Athletics begins with having an Athletic Trainer.”
According to a study conducted by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the presence of athletic trainers in secondary schools lowers overall injury rates, improves diagnosis and return‐to‐play decisions, and reduces the risk for recurrent injuries.
The Cyclones' Athletics and Physical Education Department includes two Certified Athletic Trainers, Jay Gallegly '02 and Lindsay Kennedy, and a Director of Athletic Performance, Marc Gonzaga, who are dedicated to the overall health, strength, and safety of our student-athletes. Coaches Gallegly and Kennedy are National Athletic Training Association Board Certified Athletic Trainers and are licensed by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision. In the State of Oklahoma, all Certified Athletic Trainers must be registered with the Oklahoma Medical Board. At the national level, to become a Board of Certification Certified Athletic Trainer, that person must have a degree from a college or university with an accredited athletic training program and is required to maintain an advanced CPR certification at all times. Dr. Matt Dumigan with McBride Orthopedic Hospital and Clinic is the School's head team physician.
According to the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine in 2016, "Athletic Trainers interact on a daily basis with athletes for whom they are caring, are well trained in acute injury and illness evaluation and management, facilitate care from other clinicians when needed, and work closely with team physicians to provide comprehensive care for athletes."
Casady’s athletic program grabbed local headlines in 2013 when the School put in place the Axon concussion testing software for all Upper Division athletes as part of continued injury prevention for our Cyclones. Injury prevention is always a hot topic of discussion in sports medicine. One of the most important pieces of Casady’s athletic program is the opportunity for coaches to know the students well in their physical development and capabilities during their time at the School. Physical Education is required for all Cyclones in first through sixth grades, and in seventh grade, the children begin competitive sports.
Rabbi Juan Mejía of Emmanuel Synagogue joined Casady Chapels and Middle Division Religion classes to share about Rosh Hashanah and the Jewish New Year.
Lower Division celebrated the International Day of Peace and Hispanic Heritage Month during Chapel. Students sang songs, listened to a poem, and prayed for peace around the world.
Casady’s Board of Trustees left their mark on history by signing the beams of Kirby Family Hall, the 30,000-square-foot facility for Upper Division Dining and Engagement.
