Dean's Fly In is Signature Program for College Counseling

Casady School offers a unique Dean's Fly-In program to kick start the formal college counseling program with 11th grade students and their parents.
This year, Casady welcomed college admission experts from the University of Chicago, Colby College, University of Georgia, University of Tulsa, and the University of Oklahoma for the program on Thursday evening.

“The Dean’s Fly-In Program is a signature program of Casady’s College Counseling Team, emphasizing their ability to cultivate strong and meaningful relationships with college admissions representatives from across the country,” said Nathan L. Sheldon, Head of School. “This is key to the success of Casady students finding the ‘best’ fit so that they are successful in college and the world around them.”
This year’s theme for the program was “Holistic Admissions.” Breakout sessions included:

  • Confidence, Caution, and Concerns by Kelly Bird, University of Georgia
  • Accolades, Service, and Commitment by Amelia Conlon, Colby College
  • Your Application Through the Eyes of an Admissions Counselor by Marissa Henderson, University of Oklahoma
  • The Great Big Puzzle by Casey Reed, University of Tulsa
  • Buckets, Bundles, and Beds by Josh Bottomly, Casady School
This year, parents of ninth and 10th graders were also invited to a special presentation on standardized testing in college admissions during the Dean’s Fly In Program on Thursday. The presenter was Adam Ingersoll, CEO of Compass Education Group, which has a national reputation among independent schools and colleges as a leading expert voice on standardized testing. Highlights of the Compass one-hour presentation included:
  • SAT or ACT: Making your best choice
  • Understanding PSAT scores and what they project
  • Test scores’ role and weight in college admissions
  • Why colleges’ testing policies vary so widely
  • Debunking the most pervasive myths about testing and admission
  • The relevance of Subject Tests at elite colleges
  • Sane and successful calendaring of testing and test prep
  • Hallmarks of high-quality test prep and strategies for self-study
