Dear Primary Families,
We are excited about the strategic initiatives recently announced during the parent webinar. Our plan to enhance Computer Science across Divisions at Casady excites me as a parent and as an educator. Protecting time for our teachers to focus on horizontal and vertical alignment will allow us to more effectively develop excellence, confidence, and integrity in students and prepare them with the skills and knowledge that serve as the foundation for success. These are strong initiatives and the reasoning behind them is compelling.
In Primary, we will continue to challenge our students with exercises that develop logical (computational) thinking. Our teachers have done this well for years and are looking forward to identifying opportunities to connect these skills in meaningful ways to the work being done in other Divisions.
On Wednesdays, we will have a later start for our All-Day Pre-K and Kindergarten programs. The schedule for Wednesdays has been adjusted for the later start time in ways that pull small bits of time from our schedule throughout the day, but only shortens our morning work time by five minutes. In this way, we can deliver a schedule that is sustainable and child-centered with minimal impact on the flow of the day.
We did not feel that we are ready for a later start to our Half-Day and Four-Day programs. With fewer hours in the day to work with, we couldn't alter the start time for one day without making significant adjustments elsewhere. We do believe that the protected horizontal and vertical alignment time is important and should include all of our teachers. It is our goal to include all of our programs into the new schedule beginning in the 2023-24 school year. We will be communicating with families later in the fall about any changes to the following year’s schedule.
I would like to join my colleagues in thanking Dr. Merry Sorrells, Dr. Jason Scheer, Sandy Nelson, and Josh Bottomly for all of their support and hard work in bringing these important initiatives to Casady. Our School is in good hands with these thoughtful and visionary leaders. I look forward to hearing from you if you have any questions regarding these exciting initiatives.
