Dear Parents,
As we have thoroughly engaged in our ISAS self-study, one question has especially intrigued us: “How do we balance innovation with tradition to do what is best for students’ learning?”
As you have come to hear on several occasions, the faculty and administration of Casady have developed a Strategic Academic Plan designed with five priorities for change as the School moves forward in the development of new curriculum and opportunities for students. Those priorities are promoting student wellness, expanding durable learning, enhancing student engagement, seeking community engagement opportunities, and continuing our Mission to develop skills and knowledge.
With this important framework in place, the Upper Division History/Social Sciences and English Departments are excited to announce a new Interdisciplinary Studies Program that will launch in 2021-2022.
Our “Why” for this new program involves the UD History and English teachers’ desire to offer Casady students a distinctive academic experience that aligns with our Strategic Academic Plan--our Five Priorities for Change, what learning at Casady should be, and the Portrait of a Graduate.
In Fall 2021, all members of the Class of 2023 will participate in the inaugural Interdisciplinary Studies Program. The five distinctives of this new signature program include:
Team-Taught Courses: The new eleventh grade Interdisciplinary Studies course will be team-taught by both an English and History teacher.
Dual Credit: Eleventh grade students will receive both an English and History graduation credit on their transcript.
Inquiry-Based Learning: Eleventh grade students will explore in-depth topics related to “history and culture now” in a local context through project-and-problem-based learning.
Public Presentations: Eleventh grade students will complete collaborative projects that include community engagement and public presentations of their work.
Capstone Projects: Qualified, self-selecting twelfth grade students will have the opportunity to apply for an independent project that will include working with a faculty member and/or an industry-based mentor.
Casady Field Hockey proudly kept the Nuckolls Trophy right where it belongs, securing it for the fourth consecutive year with an incredible 5 to 0 victory over Holland Hall.
Ms. Infantino and Ms. Kisselle took the AP Spanish Literature students to the Oklahoma City Ballet’s Día de los Muertos program at the Civic Center Music Hall.
Lower Division STEAM Night was filled with excitement as students and families “traveled the world” through hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
Rabbi Juan Mejía of Emmanuel Synagogue joined Casady Chapels and Middle Division Religion classes to share about Rosh Hashanah and the Jewish New Year.
Lower Division celebrated the International Day of Peace and Hispanic Heritage Month during Chapel. Students sang songs, listened to a poem, and prayed for peace around the world.
Casady’s Board of Trustees left their mark on history by signing the beams of Kirby Family Hall, the 30,000-square-foot facility for Upper Division Dining and Engagement.
