Sara Zedlitz Named Assistant Middle Division Director

Mrs. Zedlitz will join Josh Bottomly, Interim Middle Division Director, to assist with the successful transition of the Division after 22 years of dedicated service by Elizabeth Larsen, who announced that she would be leaving the School at the end of the year.

Casady School is extremely pleased to announce the appointment of Sara Zedlitz to the position of Middle Division Assistant Director, effective July 1, 2018.

Mrs. Zedlitz is a product of an independent school education. She graduated from The Hockaday School in Dallas. She has spent most of her professional life teaching in independent schools, her teaching career now spanning 15 years. Early in her career, Sara taught high school courses in world history at the Charlotte Latin School. For the past eight years at Casady, Mrs. Zedlit has taught sixth grade history. In addition, she has served as the grade team leader and co-chair of the History Department. In 2016, Mrs. Zedlitz was the recipient of the Geneva Hood Award, voted on by her faculty peers, that recognizes and honors an outstanding teacher. For the past few years, she has helped co-lead the Teacher Induction Program (TIP), a program designed to welcome new faculty to Casady School and educate them to the core mission and values of the School, and provide mentoring and professional development. Notably, Mrs. Zedlitz has two children who attend Casady, Isabel (‘24) and Grae (‘26). Sara is married to Jack Zedlitz, a ‘93 Casady alumnus.

She is excited to step into this new position that will assist with the Student Life aspects of Middle Division, along with providing leadership for the School’s faculty around growth and professional learning. “I am excited to take on a new role that allows me to be in a place that I love, to serve a faculty that I respect, and to walk alongside the students on this stage of their journey. I look forward to broadening and developing relationships both within and beyond the Middle Division. Casady has become a place of growth and learning for both me and my children, and I hope that my service in this role can honor that. I feel grateful for the opportunity and am mindful of the responsibility.”

To ensure a smooth transition, Mrs. Zedlitz and Mr. Bottomly will begin to work alongside Ms. Larsen for the remainder of this year. Our search for a permanent replacement for the Middle Division Director position will begin when we return from Christmas break. Bob Windham, Senior Search Consultant with Carney, Sandoe & Associates (CSA), the largest nationally recognized educational search firm, will be conducting the search with us.

Again, we can not express enough gratitude for Ms. Larsen's dedication to our School over these past two decades. We have a lot to celebrate and honor for her long, sustained accomplishments. At the same time, we have a lot to look forward to in terms of the ways in which Sara and Josh will bring passion and creativity to the Division next year, as well as the the enthusiasm and new ideas that the new, permanent Division Director will bring in 2019.
